The Yacht Club of Greece (Race Organizer) and the Poseidonion Grand Hotel (Hospitality Organizer) between June 13th – June 16th will host the 3rd Spetses Classic Yacht Race 2013. The race is a celebration of all the vital aesthetic beauty that Greece brings together. In particular, it features some of the most renowned classic yachts in Greece using as a backdrop a beautifully preserved historic island town with a naval and shipbuilding tradition which is unequalled in the Mediterranean.
The Spetses Classic Yacht Race is based on bringing together the diverse yet complimentary elements which make the island of Spetses ideal for inaugurating such a race.
The race features a mix of tactically intense buoy racing in the pristine classical beauty of the Spetses-Peloponnese channel and short offshore races that intersperse the Costa-Smeralda like Argolic Gulf with the virgin shore line of the surrounding islands.
Three divisions are included: a) Classic Yachts – divided into Vintage (prior to 1939), Classic (post – 1939) and Spirit of Tradition (yachts which have been built according to the classical yacht standards), b) Aegean Classic Schooners (locally known as caiques) who raced for the first time in 2011 alongside the Classic Yachts and c) Lateens.
